How to Decorate True to Your (Type 1) Nature

This new video series will help you better decorate your home true to your nature.

We’re going to start with the bright, animated Type 1′s in my Beauty Profiling system, and show you how their homes can reflect their cheery, social nature.

Decorating Your Truth as a Type 1

Type 1′s tend to keep their favorite things out and around so they can be seen. They naturally create social spaces and they like a lot of change and newness.

In this video, Marcy shares photos of her beautiful home and tells how she decorated her truth long before she started Dressing her Truth. Plus, I’ve got a bonus photo of Jaleah’s Type 1 living room.

Watch the video to hear Marcy’s fun stories and tips, especially the one thing Type 1′s shouldn’t be afraid to try when they decorate…

Thanks for watching! Do you notice any of your own tendencies in there? What would you add? I would love to hear your ideas and tips in a comment below.

General Home Decorating Tips

It’s even more common for women to express their Type in their personal space than in their wardrobe before they start Dressing their Truth. Trust your intuition about what will support you in your space!

You can find even more tips in a blog post I posted two weeks ago: click here for general tips to decorate your home for different Energy Types.

And be on the lookout for more decorating tips here on the blog. I’ll post more tips soon to help you decorate for every Type (and give you peek into Anne, Sarah, and Kalista’s homes).

Don’t know your Type?

Marcy, we are peas in a pod! For the most part my home reflected my type one nature long before I learned the joy of dressing my truth. It’s a riot of type one colours. I too will often repaint, especially the tiny powder room. Since beginning DYT, I find my decorating purchases don’t get returned nearly as frequently. I can go into HomeSense or thrift stores and buy fun decor items that go with my personality. I look for accessories that match my key words for shape, movement, texture etc. and the right colours, add a little sparkle, and just have fun. My home has been amped up from just plain fun to fun and fabulous. Thanks for sharing!

This is very timely. I am currently decorating a small room that I use for painting (I’m a part time artist) and sewing (only when I HAVE to)in my home. As s type one, I’ve always had trouble reining in and focusing on a style! So now I’ve learned to create my own style. Marcy got it right about not being afraid of color. The walls are a soft white in this room, but my newest accessories are bright orange, red-orange and yellow. These have been my favorite colors since the mid 1960s but I’ve always been afraid to use them! Anyway, I’m enjoying making over several items in my home and changing them to fit my type. It’s been pretty easy on my budget …less than $100 and I think I’m done spending. Now I am just putting it all together. Thanks for the tips Marcy.

I loved this video! I just discovered myself as a type one and I looked around my house at my decorating style and sure enough, circles are EVERYWHERE. How awesome is that?! Thank you for the tips too, now I’m going to find a way of displaying my jewelry because that is something I have struggled a bit with. I love new ideas!

I am absolutely looking forward to the kids’ room video series! Thanks for all of the great posts and videos.

I’m really pleased you’re doing this series. I’m a Type 2 and I’ve often wondered about “decorating my truth” and how I would compromise with my spouse’s Type 4. Also, I have a hard time decorating because I want it to be just right, but I don’t know what that “just right” is! I end up taking many years to do any decorating at all because of all the decisions (this is how I am with many projects). Maybe I should tap into my secondary 1 by trying not to think of decorating as such a permanent thing?

    I love this!!!!
I would notice if someone was in my house right now, because there aren’t enough rooms.
BUT my friend just came to visit and she is a T4/2 and she just walked in. yeah! and said we are getting a drink!
She told me later that it was the first time her kids have ever just walked up to someone and started interacting. Usually they are all quiet and observe. (Not that they are all T4 or T2)
All of them I think took their lead from her but as well as me. They knew that they could open up and be themselves in this T1 house.
I had no problem letting them eat my food and do what they wanted. By the time she was ready to go she couldn’t get them to leave.
It is really the first time I ever paid attentions to this in my home. Fun! Looking back this is always the way it is.

It would’ve been nice to have more time watching the picture of the living room. It was only on for a flash! I needed more time to look at it. I’d also like to see more type 1 home arrangements. As a one, I’d like more ideas!! You both look fantastic in the video, but I’d like to see more ideas that maybe haven’t occurred to me of how someone pulled off a type one room.
