Hi Carol! I SO agree with you! ‘What Not to Wear’ doesn’t really do anything but drive me crazy. They don’t take into account the actual person, but just what is ‘in style’ at the time. I do have to admit that I love a lot of the colors that they use, but that is because I’m in love with Type 4 colors, and they use quite a few of them on the show.

I am glad that my friends have not gone through with their threats to put me on the show. I think I’d have a fit if they trew out all my fun happy clothes and dressed me up in black suits. Not that black suits are bad, but they just aren’t me. (Type 1).

My husband walked into the room the other day and this show was on and he asked me, “Why are you watching this? I thought you hated it.” I replied, “For the same reason you like watching football. I like to yell at the tv!”

    Hi Carol,
I couldn’t agree more, although I do use their show as a way of explaing what I do – umm well actually do not do. I tell people who don’t know what an image consultant does that I’m the WHAT TO WEAR lady in Vancouver…I never make anyone cry. You are right they never take into consideration the person. It’s as though they are dressing a mannequin.
So many times the cloths don’t even fit properly and rarely do I hear anything about what colors they should wear. I just love Energy Profiling and Dressing Your Truth. I am a Type 3 and have been dressing with Type 4 colors forever and am so much happier in the rich warm tones.

    Thanks for all you do!

    From Carol Tuttle

I would like to add that the one thing that is considered often in the What Not to Wear Assessment is body shape.

I am asked were does body shape fit in to Dressing Your Truth?

I can see the need for us to create more information on body shape, I believe it is important

What I am realizing as I study the status-quo body shape systems, pear, apple, hourglass, rectangle, that Dressing Your Truth supersedes these and resolves a good percentage of the common body shape issues and therefore we cannot use any of these systems as they currently are taught. We are looking at creating a Dressing Your Truth Body Shape Guidelines Handbook that supports our primary system and gives more support for women with these body shape variables:

    short waisted
    long waisted
    small bust
    large bust
    overweight
    long legs
    short legs
    thick thighs and calves
    large bottom
    flat bottom
    short/petite
    tall

I don’t like calling them issues, that suggests they are flaws in the body, and our whole message is to teach women that beauty comes in many sizes, colors, shapes, physical features, personalities, and movements of the body and Dressing Your Truth does bring out your beauty, it’s not just a positive mental attitude gimmick, it really does make a woman more beautiful when she follows our system!

Wow – I have watched the US version of WNTW only twice and thought the hosts were really off target. I watched the UK – original – version for several years on the BBC and although Susannah and Trinny were a bit out of the box; I think they hit the right combo sometimes for the women they helped. They put a lot of emphhasis on their lifestyle and relationships, and talked about being true to oneself and not necessarily in the grip of “fashion”. Would love to see Carol help out more than the WNTW hosts. Please do something about the gals who are on The View – I cringe when I flip past their show.
Meanwhile, I am re-doing my costume wardrobe (Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carrib., Silk Road, etc.) to reflect my true type Two-ness and just finished making my own jewelry for one costume. Loving the whole experience.

I just watched this show for the first time in a long time the other day and I just hated it. The lady on there obviously didn’t want to cut her hair and that was just a belief she had and she didn’t cut it but, they just seemed so unhappy with her for not cutting. Like, oh we can’t style your hair at this length. It was really long but why not suggest something, anything like long layers. I thought that was where she would go with it in the end but he was like all or nothing. We have to cut it at least up to here. It was just, I don’t know, weird.

They are just plain not practical. I wouldn’t hate to have my whole wardrobe thrown out. I just will not work in the garden in brand new clothes, LOL.
