Ask Carol! Question of the Week: How do I decorate my home to suit 2 different Types of people?

Ask Carol!

I get this question a lot! It’s not as complicated as you might think to fashion your home in the movements of the different Types of Energy expressed by the people who live there!  I give you 2 examples of how this can be accomplished?  On a side note I think I said the word coiffured wrong so no need to post a comment about that!  What Type are you?  http://www.myenergyprofile.com

Hi, I personally love this subject. I am in school right now for interior design. My favorite class so far was color. I was already seeing the tints, shades, etc from DYT. For my final I had to do 3 rooms in a hotel/resort type setting. I decided mine would be a retreat resort designed for Energy Profiled people. So I made the rooms fitting for 3 of the types. It was a fun way to introduce classmates to Energy Profiling and Dressing Your Truth. (I didn’t do type 4 but how easy would that have been when it is the only type that has a design style all of their own. The rest of us have blended styles to choose from or create our own.)

What I have learned in school is that with color it is super easy to mix 2/3 and 4/1 colors together. Often in the design world it is expected. I have also learned that for me to do a totally type 1 room like I would like goes against the “norms” of decorating in the professional world. Who wants to be “normal” anyway?

Just like how in Dressing Your Truth you need to find your inner beauty sense I think the same needs to be true of decorating a home. Too many people are looking for someone else to tell them how to do it when we instinctively know what we like. I suggest that the best way to decorate a home with more then one person in it no matter what their types is communication so that everyone can put in their instincts. Especially as what works for me as a type 1 doesn’t work for all type 1s the same would be for everyone and type.

This is a comment on the second half of the question about dressing the different types incorrectly in the wrong chroma and fabrication etc. I went to a live event when I took dressing your truth and loved it. On the last day the trainers came in dressed in the incorrect clothing and with their hair done wrong. After everyone in the class got over their shock at how different (aka “bad”) they looked, they changed into their correct chroma and look. The difference was amazing. This experience had a very powerful impact on how motivated I was to go home and go through my closet and really apply what I had just learned.
I think it would be motivating to have your four types panel who we have seen many times looking amazing dressing their truth, trade and dress in another type. Hopefully it would move more women who are interested, but have not committed to spending the money on the course to move forward.
I am so glad I know how to dress my truth. I am a type 3 and appreciate how much more efficient it is to know what to buy and how to dress and do my make-up and hair. I love to make a big impact, but, true to my nature, would not spend a lot of time to accomplish that. Now with my educated fashion sense, I am able to look great and not spend a fortune in money or a lot of time to do this. Thanks Carol for providing this amazing information and wonderful resource to all women. Anyone passing this up is really missing out.

Hey on that. We know that we don’t look good in black unless we are a 4 so when doing it try showing the difference with a 2 dressed as a 1 or visa versa. As a 1/3 dressing in type 2 chroma is a huge difference for me but “similar” in color. Today I am wearing the right clothes but messed up in my hair (it turned out more type 2) just that little difference is HUGE! thanks for hearing me :)

I’ve been having flashbacks in failed relationships lately, not the ‘learn to forgive & move on’ stuff, but other things I NEVER knew to pay attention to, like, home comfort & style.. I know when I feel good in someone’s home, & it makes sense that my comfort recognizes the ease of energy between the people living there, & their color & shape, texture & decorative choices. When they’re being true to their comfort, it all feels inviting & at ease, even if they’re not ‘dressing their truth’.

Every personal failed relationship I suddenly see & feel in an expanded understanding: I adapted to their style (as a type 1 that now makes sense) & never knew what I truly liked so I didn’t make changes other than keeping it neat & clean. My 1st husband I believe was a type 4 & the house he bought & furnished was pretty but I could never get comfortable in it as he always had to have ‘ready to sell’. That is not a home… that’s a control freak on steroids.

The second man I think is a type 1 w/a secondary 3, or vice versa, but nothing was important enough to him to take care of or keep clean. Its hodge-podge quality didn’t look or feel right either, & as for colors, clashing would be kind.

So now… I know I like comfort with quality, some structure, natural colors & textures, more leather smoothness than rough or suede, light & earthy colors & splashes of bright colors in some rooms & others more soothing… in fact… as my brain feels like I’ve corraled 55 tv’s down to 3 w/55 channels, having blank walls with a lovely paint & texture is the most restful.
