What’s the biggest fashion risk you’ve ever taken?
If you are like me then you’ve had fears about trying new things with your fashion and style for fear of what other people may think. I have let go of that fear and I want you to as well!
Here is my 3rd challenge for you to celebrate your beauty:
Try something new—maybe even something outrageous.
Watch this video and meet a mom who has let go of her fear. See how amazing she looks and how much fun she is having being true to herself—and by being a little outrageous with her style. I even try something that I wouldn’t have a few years ago:
What new thing will you try to celebrate your beauty today? What have you been too afraid to do? Do you feel braver now? Please share with us in your comments.
You can celebrate with something as simple as wearing a pair of earrings you never would have tried a few years ago. There are so many possibilities with your hair, accessories, clothing, shoes, makeup, and more. Whatever you do, don’t worry about what others think—you are an inspiration to others when you live and Dress Your Truth!
And why not celebrate with something completely new?
Something you wanted to try, but maybe weren’t sure about?
Come to the first ever Dressing Your Truth Annual Event—”Celebrate Your Beauty 2011″—from August 18-20 in Salt Lake City, Utah. You and I and hundreds of other women will celebrate our beauty together. And you will go home inspired to try so many new things to celebrate a beautiful you!
If you missed either of the first two videos, click the links for challenge #1 and #2. And check back next week for my 4th challenge to help you celebrate your beauty in a really visual way.

I LOVE Emily at the DYT salon!!! I felt like she read my mind and gave me the best cut and color for me (Type 1). She also encouraged me to push the “outrageous” envelope. We colored my hair in sheets of 3 different colors. When curled, it looks like ribbons of color cascading down my head. And, depending on where I part my hair, I can be blonde, honey or a light brunette. LOVE IT!
It’s been over 4 months now and I still have friends, family, acquaintances and strangers stopping me to say, “WOW!!!” I feel flirty, young, beautiful and, best of all, light!
The only downside? I haven’t been able to find anyone out here on the East Coast to match her in ability (or personality! She rocks!). Le sigh. So I’m saving my sheckles for another trip to Utah just so I can visit the DYT salon!
Thank you, Carol, for putting together such an excellent team of women to help me find and live my truth!

First of All, Megan’s hair is awesome!
Secondly, DYT is one of the best programs to come into my life. It has changed myself and my interactions with others only for the better. It is worth every penny.
Can you tell I am a type four by the way I wrote my comment
?

Lovely presentation! wow, i see that “outrageous” is relative…you could go a brighter red, and also way bigger earrings…really.. I mean, on the west coast – both of you would be considered quite tame. Lookin’ good!
Oh! going by other people’s comments re your fab hairdresser Emily – wondering if she could do up a training course for other hairdressers to come and take from other parts of the country? in doing hair the DYT way? maybe some day? hmmm? just a thought.
i have to say i took it to the edge this last winter and got a faux chinchilla coat – have always wanted one, but thought it would never suit me.. so when the shopping channel lady said it was designed especially for the heroine of a spy movie, well, i just had to get it! How insane!
When i opened the box i thought oh looks grey, i can’t wear this… but i did, and got compliments (yes, people pet my coats at work). The more i wore it and looked at, the more i realized it is a mix of different colours and has PINK in the fur… the more i wore the more i liked it. That was a big jump for me.
Why is it i have found i have bought stuff acc to my colour chart and realize hey i would not be caught dead in this, even though it supposedly suits me.. what is that? And also I have to say, with my extreme awareness of colour i do get confused with some labelling of colours and also patterns – what i think may not be classified as not my type, i think is, simply because the pattern’s movement. My favourite is the implication of moving water, like looking at stones at the bottom of a brook… also certain colours just sing to me (it’s like love at first sight)..i will wear those things til they need patching, and even then…
Also i am finding colours that have no names… there are in between all the named ones…. my biggest paranoia is that i figure the DYT police will come and say, that’s not your type you’re doing it wrong.
But then i think, ha, too many rules… go play!

She looks fabulous and doing something different seems so fun. I often feel like I want to do something totally different and “outrageous”, but as a Type 2 I am not sure how to pull it off and still be true to the soft and subtle nature of a Type 2. Any thoughts on what outrageous things to try for a 2?

Hi Elizabeth, that is a great question. If you are a Dressing Your Truth Club Member that would be a great forum topic to get going, see what other Type 2′s are doing!! Love Carol

I have to laugh and want to share my afternoon. I just finished the DYT course (Type 2) and got Carol’s challenge this morning. It was on my mind as I ran my errands so I stopped into a few stores to check out clothes and jewelry. No luck on the clothes – but I bought an “outrageous” set of dangly earrings in my metal color and shapes. They are much larger and longer than I would EVER have bought prior to DYT (and the challenge) – I’m petite and always tend toward the smaller earrings.
I got in the car and put them in before heading to the grocery store. As I walked around that store I marveled at how I wasn’t feeling the need to smile (I hear “smile” – “what’s wrong?” a LOT when I am just being me – not sad, not angry, just observing. So I’ve learned to “smile” most all the time – so that people will leave me alone!) Well, anyway, I was just wandering the store – in my colors, lines, textures, and fabrication – and new “outrageous” earrings. Long story short, customer service fixed an ongoing issue I have questioned them about – more than once – and two different men (each shopping alone – in different parts of the store) – struck up conversations with me that lasted longer than a few sentences! I’m pretty sure they were flirting!
I then came home and my type 2 son (age 18) immediately commented on my new earrings (“Nice!”) and my type 4 son (age 22) actually let me talk with him about DYT and my day, without making me feel stupid!
Just have to laugh! Thought I’d share what this Type 2′s “outrageous” thing was – and its result!

I did something outrageous for me yesterday and bought a bright saturated yellow sweater. I never wear yellow — thought it looked bad on me. I am wearing the sweater today with black pants, and shoes and a white shirt to work. Also wearing bigger than usual earrings. So far I am liking the color.

I loved this blog post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this post needs to be one of the first post that anyone coming to your site see’s. I love the talk about moms and how you can be a mom and still be you. I think every mom goes through what I call the ” frumpy, yucky mom stage” where you look sick, your probably fat and all you do is give to your family. Some where in there there needs to be a balance between being a mom and being you.

My next outrageous thing is that T4 Bright Pink feather headband on the DYT store website. I never wear headbands, but I saw that and thought…wow – I want that! Maybe I’m less of a yinT4 than I thought!

I took a brand-new, store bought t-shirt and tore it up! Why? It was a tint, and a light material (I am a 1) but it was too long for me (I have a short torso) and was pretty clingy, so the texture of my jeans showed through. Now, my secondary type is type 3, and since texture, randomness, and asymmetry all work with a 1/3, I decided to take a little risk- so I took a pair of scissors and cut the bottom of the shirt off, and since I am no type 4 taylor it was a very uneven, jagged cut. I took this scrap and turned it into a neck accessory (half necklace, half scarf). Then I took a bunch of gold safety pins and pinned them in a “V” pattern around the collar of the shirt. Finally, I cut slits in the sleeves of the t-shirt to add more jaggedness. Then I wore it out, and got so many complements on what I was wearing! My grandmother even thought that torn t-shirts were some new fashion trend I was following! It was awesome!
I love being a type 1/3. I mean who else could tear a t-shirt up and make a fashion statement?

Nailed it! I’ve done the same thing with blonde and get tons of compliments. Great presentation…love the red!
