Reese Witherspoon…on life:

Many people worry so much about managing their careers, but rarely spend half that much energy managing their LIVES. I want to make my life, not just my job, the best it can be. The rest will work itself out.”

Meryl Streep…on perfection:

All that attention to the perfect lighting, the perfect this, the perfect that, I find terribly annoying.”

Katie Holmes…on being organized:

I’m definitely a messy person… I know where everything is but I just can’t organize. I don’t make lists and I find scripts on the laundry machine, and under my bed, or in the bathroom, kitchen…”

Paula Abdul…on fitness:

Find fitness with fun dancing. It is fun and makes you forget about the dreaded exercise.”

Betty White…on exercise:

I have a two-story house and a bad memory, so I’m up and down those stairs all the time. That’s my exercise.”

Goldie Hawn…on youthfulness:

Adam Sandler…on his work:

Ellen DeGeneres…on comedy:

Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at somebody else’s expense. And I find that that’s just a form of bullying in a major way. So I want to be an example that you can be funny and be kind, and make people laugh without hurting somebody else’s feelings.”

Ellen DeGeneres…on shifting to joy:

The world is full of a lot of fear and a lot of negativity, and a lot of judgment. I just think people need to start shifting into joy and happiness. As corny as it sounds, we need to make a shift.

Will Smith…on positive news:

There’s so much negative imagery of black fatherhood. I’ve got tons of friends that are doing the right thing by their kids, and doing the right thing as a father—and how come that’s not as newsworthy?”

Nick Cannon…on Will Smith:

To be compared to Will Smith is probably one of the coolest things because that’s who I came up admiring.

Jack Black…on eyebrows:

You must never underestimate the power of the eyebrow.”

Jim Carrey…on being animated:

There was a time when people said, ‘Jim, if you keep on making faces, your face will freeze like that.’ Now they just say, ‘Pay him!'”

I love “Reese Witherspoon … on life,” “Meryl Streep … on perfection,” and “Katie Holmes … on being organized.” My favorite would have to be “Ellen DeGeneres … on comedy.” In the past few years, I have really started to evaluate the kind of entertainment I expose myself to. I have always enjoyed comedic movies and shows, but more recently I have found myself being bothered by things that were funny to me before. I do not like to hear people getting made fun of, and gross-out comedy is just not appealing anymore. I have never liked the over-the-top style of comedy that some comedians have. If you have to mutilate your body or embarrass others to get a laugh, it just isn’t funny to me. In recent years, I have found that I have grown to hate the style of comedy and jokes that belittle others and use racial slurs; or ones that use negative terminology to refer to anyone’s race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or anything that could be deemed hurtful or offensive. It makes me furious.

My boyfriend has a problem using a few of these words. Before Dressing Your Truth, I would have just set back and quietly hated it. I did not want to say anything because that would put the attention on me, and I might hurt someone’s feelings. I never wanted to make others uncomfortable or ruin their good time, so I would just stay quiet. But now (especially with my boyfriend), I am not afraid to stand up for how I feel. I expressed to him that I hated it when he used those words. I was so proud of myself for standing up for what I believed in, which is a huge step for me. 🙂

Anyway, I have a great quote to share. Here is a Type One quote: “I was raised to sense what someone wanted me to be and be that kind of person. It took me a long time not to judge myself in someone else’s eyes.” – Sally Field. I think this speaks true for a lot of women, not just Type Ones.

Thank you for this blog post Carol. It was a blast to read. Gotta love those happy, go-lucky Type Ones and their fabulously fun expressions.

My favorite from your list: Martin Short…on life:

I’ve chosen to treat my life more like a party than something to stress about.”

One of my other favorite quotes is …

    “Misery is optional.”

The older I get, the more I appreciate that one.

Oh! Where to start! You’ve quoted quite a few of my favorites. Both of Betty White’s quotes. Katie Homes because that is so me. Jack Black’s eye brow thing. Yeah. I get that one. I have loved Ellen since I first saw her first show.
